Smuggler sentenced to 6 years in jail in Chittagong

A Chittagong court sentenced a man to six years in prison for his involvement in a gold smuggling case filed at the Patenga police station in 2014. Court sources say Md Bodiul Alam, son of Nowa Mia, from Raozan upazila of Chittagong is behind bars. According to the case statements, customs officials at Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport detained Bodiul  with 45 gold bars in his possession on August 24, 2014. Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Shahe Nur passed the verdict after examining evidence. The court also fined Bodiul Tk 10,000 in default as well as an additional two months in jail, said Public Prosecutor Advocate Farkhruddin Chowdhury. Fakhruddin said a total of 10 witnesses have testified in the case. Bodiul was later handed over to the Patenga police station. Assistant Commissioner ABM Rezaul Karim filed a case against him.
