3 out of 5 abducted Rohingya leaders rescued from Ukhiya camp

They were kidnapped by an armed group from an event at a Teknaf camp on Wednesday

Three of the five Rohingya leaders, who were kidnapped at gunpoint from a Teknaf Rohingya camp, have been rescued.

Sabbir, 42, Md Yusuf, 32, and Abu Musa, 29, were rescued from Block A/4 of camp No 14 in the Hakimpara area of Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya upazila on Thursday afternoon. 

Police are still searching for the other two missing Rohingya leaders, said Captian Tarikul Islam of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn).  

Twenty-two Rohingya leaders attended an event at Chakmarkul camp No 21 in Teknaf on Wednesday.

Holding them at gunpoint, some members of an extremist armed group kidnapped the five Rohingya leaders.

After the Rohingyas sought help, law enforcers were able to rescue three of the leaders following investigation.
