A Jhenaidah court granted bail to a young man accused of rape after he married the victim on the instruction of a judge at a court premise on Thursday.
Nazmul Hossain had been arrested and sent to jail for a year for allegedly raping a girl with whom he had an affair in Kanchannagar of Jhenaidah town.
District and Sessions Judge Abu Ahsan Habib after a year and one month decided to grant the accused bail if he agreed to marry the victim.
Subsequently, the marriage between the girl and her alleged rapist took place at the Jhenaidah District and Sessions Judge's Court premises on Thursday.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, defence lawyer Aminur Islam Nurul said a rape case was filed against Nazmul Hossain in January last year.
According to the case statement, Nazmul raped the girl with whom he was having an affair. Nazmul was subsequently arrested and sent to jail.
Public Prosecutor Adv Ismail Hossain said this was the first time a Jhenaidah court organized a marriage between a rape suspect and the victim.
