Police have arrested the station master of Rajshahi Railway station in a rape case filed against him.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Boalia police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nibaran Chandra Barman said police arrested Moin Uddin Azad, 42, following a raid at his house on Wednesday evening.
He also said the arrestee will be handed over to the court by Thursday.
The victim, a housewife (25) and a mother of two, filed a rape case against Azad with the Boalia Model Police Station in Rajshahi on January 18.
According to the case details, she met Station Master Azad while travelling from the train station. Later, she had regular conversations with him on Facebook Messenger after getting to know him.
At one point, Azad offered her a job at the railways, but demanded Tk8 lakh as bribe. He also took Tk2 lakh from her in advance with the promise of getting her the job.
In her statement, she said that Azad caller her to his home on January 17, to collect a book for the recruitment test for the potential job at the railway station. However, she realized there was no one at home after arriving there.
Azad raped her in the empty home and then threatened her of dire consequences if she told anyone of the incident, she said in the case details.
Despite the threat, the victim filed a case with the police the next day.
