At least eight people were killed and over 50 others injured after a boiler of a four-storey apparel factory exploded in Gazipur on Monday night.
The identity of the deceased and the injured could not be known immediately.
Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defence Assistant Director Akteruzzaman confirmed the number of the deceased, but he primarily could not mention their sex.
Joydebpur police station's Sub-Inspector Harun-ur-Rashid said the accident took place at the factory named Multifabs Limited at Kashimpur's Noyapara area under Gazipur City Corporation.
Employees of the factory were working in its dying section on the ground floor when boiler went off around 6:30pm, he said
The ground and second floors of the building got heavily damaged in the accident, leading to the causalities.
On information, firefighters rushed to the scene around 9pm, dousing the blaze with the help of locals in an hour.
Gazipur's Deputy Commissioner Dr MD Humayun Kabir said the injured, numbering at least 50, were taken to hospitals.
