The intensity of the cold weather in the middle of the winter season, which is currently sweeping across different regions of the country, may drop within next three days at some places, according to a weather forecast.
“The cold wave is sweeping since Sunday and will continue till today [Monday],” Meteorologist Shahinul Islam told Dhaka Tribune.
Temperature will start rising from Tuesday, he added.
According to Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the cold wave is sweeping across the country except for Chittagong, Chandpur, Maijdee, Cox's Bazar, Kutubdia, and Sylhet.
For the first time in the current season, Dhaka recorded a minimum temperature of 10 degrees Celsius on Monday.
The lowest minimum temperature recorded on Monday was 5.5 degree Celsius in Srimangal of Moulvibazar, with Chuadanga in the second place with 5.7 degree Celsius.
The forecast for the next 24 hours, starting from 9am, says the weather will remain dry across the country.
Moderate to heavy fog may fall across the country from midnight to morning, said BMD Director Shamsuddin Ahmed.
Ridge of Sub-continental high extends up to West Bengal and adjoining area. Seasonal low lies over South Bay.
Despite the widespread cold wave in the country, night and day temperatures may rise slightly across the country on Monday.
The meteorological official said that the temperature may rise in the next 3 days after 24 hours.
Meanwhile in Kurigram, light drizzle during the night and heavy fog during the day time has worsened the cold spree in the district, forcing people to stay indoors.
“The cold wave may persist 3-4 days in the district,” Subal Chandra Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Kurigram Rajarhat Weather and Agriculture Observation Center, told UNB.
The poor and destitute people are the worst suffers in the cold due to lack of warm clothes. Though the local administration has distributed warm clothes but it is not sufficient.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Abdul Hye said already 57,000 warm clothes and blankets have been distributed from the government, while some private organisations have also come forward to make people warm during winter.
Manjurul Haque, deputy-director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), said potato and boro cultivation in the district has been affected by the dense fog.
In Magura, the normal life of low-income people have been affected badly in the district due to the cold wave.
Besides, the number of cold-related disease patients has been on the rise bringing more to take medical care at hospitals.
The number of cold-related patients is increasing day by day due to the cold wave. Most of the patients are complained of pneumonia and respiratory problem,” Nahida Yeasmin, a physician at Magura hospital, told the news agency.
The hospital in the district have been struggling to provide treatment to the people.
