A woman has given birth to her child in a club after failing to get admitted to the Madarganj Upazila Hospital in Jamalpur.

After the hospital reportedly refused the pregnant woman, Alpana, emergency medical assistance on Saturday afternoon, she went on to have her baby boy in Bakultala Maitri Club of Jamalpur town.

Later, the mother and her child were admitted to Jamalpur General Hospital as both their health were deteriorating.

Alpana’s husband, Yeasin Ali, said: “When my wife was in labour, I rushed her to Madarganj Upazila Hospital. But there the doctors took a look and instead of admitting her, they advised us to take her to Jamalpur General Hospital.

“On our way to the hospital, my wife started having contractions and gave birth to my son in Bakultala Maitri Club.”

However, denying all allegations, Madarganj Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Md Saiful Islam said: “The patient was admitted in the hospital. But after giving primary treatment, we felt that there were some complications in the gynecological process and therefore, referred her to Jamalpur General Hospital for better treatment.”
