Noakhali trawler capsize: 1 more body found, 4 children remain missing

So far, the death of 11 people was confirmed

The body of one of the five missing children has been recovered after the trawler they boarded capsized in the Meghna River in Noakhali on December 15.

A search and rescue team of Hatia and Ramgati coast guard stations recovered the body from Chairman Ghat Channel on Sunday evening.

Eleven people have been confirmed dead so far and four children still remain missing, said Hatia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Imran Hossain.

Each family of the deceased has been given a cash assistance of Tk 20,000 by the upazila administration, he added.

The trawler carrying around 30 to 40 passengers -- most of whom were from a wedding party -- capsized in the river near Hatiya upazila's Kearingchar area around 1:30pm on December 15.

The body of Amir Hossain, 2, son of Ilias Uddin from Bayarchar village in Chandi union was recovered on Sunday.

The other deceased are -- Niha Begum, 1, Jakia Begum, 55, Taslima Begum, 21, Asma Begum, 19, Rahena Begum, 30, Nur Jahan, 65, Lily Akter, 8, Hosne Ara Rupa, 5, and Afrin Akter Lamia, and Md Hasan, 7.

The missing children were identified as Nargis Begum, 4, daughter of Md Kader; Halima, 4, daughter of Rubel Hossain; Lamia Begum, 3, daughter of Mohin Uddin; and Alif Uddin, 1, son of Abdur Rahimal, all from different villages in Hatiya upazila.
