Police on Friday recovered the body of a woman whose family members accused her in-laws of killing her in Rampur village in Feni Sadar upazila.

The deceased has been identified as Mahmuda Akhter Shirin, 23, confirmed Feni Sadar police outpost in-charge Sudip Roy.

"The body has injury marks on the neck. We can learn the cause behind the murder after an autopsy," Sudip, said.

Police took the father-in-law and mother-in-law of the deceased to the police station for an interrogation. However, her husband Shahjalal Shahin and  sister-in-law Khodeja Begum are on the run.

Shirin's elder sister Sultana Mahmud said: "Shirin was married to Shahin on February 7 this year. After the marriage Shirin's in-laws had been physically and mentally torturing her.

"They had not even been allowing Shirin to come to visit our father's house. Shirin informed me over the phone that her husband had beaten her. We rushed there after the call. Arriving at the scene we found my sister’s body lying on the floor.

"Shahin's mother Saleha said Shirin had committed suicide after locking her room's door from the inside," said Sultana adding that she believes that Shirin was murdered.
