At least eight people have been arrested in three districts across the country for the rapes of four minors and a woman.
The arrests took place on Sunday.
In Narayanganj, a nine-year-old madrasa student was raped reportedly by her teacher in Siddhirganj.
Minhazur Rahman, 27, a teacher of Jamiatun Eman Boarding Madrasa, is accused of raping the child for the last eight months.
On Thursday, the rape-survivor informed her family and they lodged a complaint with Siddhirganj police station.
Confirming the incident, Siddhirganj police OC Kamrul Faruque said: “We arrested the teacher and sent him to jail through the court. We are also taking preparations to record the child’s statement.”
In Brahmanbaria, a 14-year-old has been gang-raped reportedly by two men from her locality in Mogra union of Akhaura upazila.
Jiyar Hossain, 35, and Ibrahim Hossain Apu, 20, are accused of forcefully taking the teenager to a deserted calvert and raping her on Friday.
“After receiving complaints from the girl’s family, we arrested Apu and sent him to jail through the court on Sunday,” said Rasul Ahmed Nizami, officer-in-charge of Akhaura police station.
Meanwhile, a five-year-old child escaped an attempted rape in Collegepara of Akhaura on November 2.
The child was playing beside her house when her neighbour Tofayel, 40, attempted to rape her, the grandmother of the child said.
“Despite informing police multiple times, they did not file our complaint,” she added.
When asked, Akhaura police OC Rasul Afmed said he will lodge the case as soon as possible, but he could not provide a clear answer about the allegations made by the family.
In Chittagong, a woman was raped reportedly by her former neighbour after she came to Chittagong from Comilla in search of her husband.
Accused Monir promised to help the woman learn her husband’s whereabouts and took her to his house at the Motijharna area in Chittagong on Friday evening.
On Saturday morning, after his wife left for her work, Monir raped the woman at knife point, according to the complaint.
When the woman returned to the house to collect her belongings, Monir along with eight of his associates verbally and physically assaulted her, the case statement further said.
Shahinul Islam, officer-in-charge of Khulshi police station, said that they have arrested Monir and three of his associates after the victim lodged the case.
In Noakhali, a second grader has been raped reportedly by a kitchen shop owner of her area in Subarna char.
Police arrested accused Md Masud, 28, on Sunday. He allegedly lured the child to an abandoned house adjacent to his shop and raped her the previous day.
After learning of the incident, locals caught the suspected rapist and handed him over to police after beating him up, police sources said.
Confirming the incident, Shahed Uddin, officer-in-charge of Char Jabbar police station, said: “We arrested the perpetrator and sent him to jail through the court.”
