Two workers have been killed in a landslide while cutting hills illegally in Ramu upazila in Cox's Bazar.
The incident took place at around 4:30am on Wednesday in Jharnaghona area of Ukhiarghona in Kawakhop union.
The deceased have been identified as Ali Ahmed, 30 and Mujibur Rahman, 32.
According to police and witnesses, at the time of the accident, workers were illegally collecting soil by cutting hills to fill a piece of land in Bhutpara belonging to one Shamsul Alam.
At that time, a big chunk of earth from the hill suddenly fell on the workers, killing two workers on the spot. Another worker Md Rafiq was injured in the same accident.
Ramu police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) KM Azmiruzzaman said: “The injured have been sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital and the bodies of the deceased have been sent to its morgue.”
Legal action is being taken in this regard, he added.
