Four people, including three of a family, were killed and two others were injured when a train rammed into a car at Nawapara Rail Crossing under Abhaynagar upazila in Jessore.
The accident took place at Nawapara Bridge area around 4:45pm on Friday, confirmed Abhaynagar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tajul Islam.
The deceased were identified as Hirak Bhuiyan, 34, his sister Shilpy Khanam, 32, niece Raisha, 6 and friend Ashraful Islam, 42. They were from Bhawakhali area of Narail district.
Police said a Khulna-bound train from Chapainawabganj rammed the car when it was passing the rail crossing near the Nawapara Bridge.
Iffat Sharmin, an emergency department doctor at the Abhaynagar Health Complex, said: “Four accident victims were brought to the hospital. One of the children was declared dead on arrival. We have referred the other three seriously injured to Khulna Medical College Hospital.”
Abhaynagar police station OC Tajul Islam said: "We rushed to the spot after getting the news of the accident. Two people were found dead on the spot and four others were rushed to Abhaynagar Health Complex where another died. The other injured were then taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital.”
