5 killed in Feni, Cox's Bazar road accidents

At least 25 were injured

At least five people were killed in road accidents in Feni and Cox's Bazar on Sunday.

In Feni, three people have been killed and 15 others were injured as a mail train smashed into a passenger bus at Fatehpur rail crossing in Feni Sadar upazila.

The Chittagong-bound mail train hit the NR Paribahan bus at the rail crossing around 5:45am on Sunday, leaving two people dead on the spot while one more died on the way to the hospital.

Most of the injured were admitted to Feni General Hospital while some were referred to hospitals in Dhaka and Chittagong.

Senior Station Master Muhammad Abu Taher of Feni Fire Service and Civil Defence confirmed the matter tothe Dhaka Tribune.

A probe committee has been formed which was directed to submit their reports within three working days.

In Cox's Bazar, two people were killed and 10 others were injured as a bus carrying tourists plunged into a road-side ditch.

The accident took place on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Islamabad Waherpara area of Sadar upazila around 5 am.

The deceased has been identified as Md Murad, 30 and another Kalabhandari, 40, both from Begumganj upazila in Noakhali.

Confirming, Chakaria Highway police outpost in-charge Morshedur Rahman said the bus got completely wrecked after falling into the ditch. Murad died on the spot and Kalabhandari was declared dead after he was taken to a nearby hospital.
