Two young women were saved from forced prostitution in the port city after they called national emergency service 999 to seek help from the police.

Based on the description, a team led by Bakalia OC identified the house and rescued the victims.

The police also detained two people from the house.

The detainees were identified as Md Delwar, 25 and Shahin Akhter, 24.

The rescued victims said they used to work at an apparel factory of Karnaphuli EPZ under Patenga police station in the city.

However, the factory was shut down due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

A colleague of the apparel factory introduced them to a person Md Rakib, 25, with the promise of providing jobs.

Luring them with the promise of providing jobs, Rakib and his friend Shawkat Ali Khan brought the victims to the house at 11:45 pm on October 3.

After coming to the house, the victims found the two detained persons.

The two detained persons forced the victims into the sex trade.

A case was filed against the duo under the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking Act 2012.
