A Khagrachhari court granted police two days remand for the prime suspect in a case filed over the gang-rape of woman with disability by a group of robbers.
Prime suspect Nurul Amin was produced before the Khagrachhari Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court Wednesday afternoon.
Judge Sejuti Jannat put Nurul on a 2-day remand after police pleaded the court to grant a seven-day remand for him, confirmed Muhammad Rashid, officer-in-charge of Khagrachhari Sadar police station.
In the early hours of September 24, a group of nine robbers broke into a house in Balpaiya Adam of Khagrachhari Sadar Upazila and raped a woman with disability.
Subsequently, police arrested seven out of the nine men accused in a case filed by the woman’s mother later that day.
On Sunday, six arrestees except for the prime suspect Nurul, confessed to their crimes before the same magistrate’s court.
Police say eight of the nine men, who robbed the family and raped the woman with disability, were accused in multiple cases filed over different charges, including rape, robbery, and firearms.
These men met and got acquainted in prison. They carried out robberies in different areas after coming out of prison on bail. They had also planned to rob this family late early Thursday.
Meanwhile, Tripura Students Forum and Bangladesh Marma Students’ Council have been demonstrating in Khagrachhari town demanding justice for all rape survivors in the district and for exemplary punishment of the perpetrators.
