A man reportedly raped his 14-year-old daughter in Faridganj upazila of Chandpur.
Police on Monday arrested the girl's father Monir Hossain, 37, after a case was lodged against him by the girl’s mother with Faridganj police station.
Confirming the matter, Faridganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abdur Rakib said: "We have accepted the complaint considering all information. Monir is accused of sexually harassing her daughter for a long time. The girl, in front of her father, said she was raped by him."
According to the case statement, the girl's mother had been living in Dhaka with her daughter and two sons. She arrived at her husband's house in Chandpur along with her daughter at one point during the Covid-19 shutdown.
On September 22, Monir accosted her daughter while she was sleeping and then raped her. He then threatened to kill her if the matter is disclosed.
The girl's mother said: "She (the girl) disclosed the matter to me when I took her to Dhaka on September 25. She was silent at first out of fear."
Locals said Monir used to take drugs and had been sexually harassing girls for long.
OC Md Abdur Rakib said: "The girl has been sent to Chandpur General Hospital for forensic tests. Monir was sent to jail through court."
