A private bank's security guard in Ashuganj upazila of Brahmanbaria has reportedly been killed during a theft attempt at the bank.

Police recovered the man's severely injured body from inside the bank and his hands and feet were bound, said Ashuganj police station Officer-in-Charge Jabed Mahmud.

The deceased has been identified as Rajesh Biswas, 23, a security guard of the Ashuganj unit of Bangladesh Development Bank Limited.

According to sources from the police and the bank, on Saturday night a bank official found the bank locked from the inside, but none addressed his calls. Being informed, police broke inside and found Rajesh's body on the floor.

Police found that the grills of a window at the murder spot were cut into an opening and several drawers at the desks were vandalized. A failed attempt was made to break open the bank's vault, police said.

The Detective Branch of Police detained two security guards of the bank in order to interrogate them about the incident. The body of the deceased was sent for autopsy.

Ashuganj police station Officer-in-Charge Jabed Mahmud said: "The murder might have taken place on Thursday as the body was bloated when we found it. Investigation is underway in this regard. Further details could be known after that."
