13-year-old boy killed for ransom in Savar

Some criminals, who were staying at the bus stand offered them shelter for the night and took them to an isolated area

A teenage boy has reportedly been beaten to death by criminals for ransom in Mozarmail area of Ashulia in Savar, outskirts of Dhaka.

Police recovered the body of Sabuj Mian, 13, --son of Misir Ali hailed from Lalmonirhat-- on Tuesday afternoon.

Sabuj studied at a local madrasa in Kazi Coloni village of Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila, said sources.

Police said Sabuj and his friend Zahidul Islam went out from home on Monday evening to visit his sister’s house in Mozarmail. They were staying at the bus stand nearby the village as they could not find out the house in the evening. 

Some criminals, who were staying at the bus stand offered them shelter for the night and took them to an isolated area. There they tied up them and sent messages to their guardians demanding Tk20,000 as ransom. 

As there was no response from the guardians, they beat-up them mercilessly leaving Sabuj dead on the spot and Zahidul critically injured.

After the incident, the criminals threw them in a nearby ditch and escaped the scene.

On information, police recovered the body of Sabuj and rescued Zahidul in critical condition on Tuesday afternoon.

SI Ziaul Islam of Ashulia police station said the body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College in Dhaka.

Nobody could be arrested yet, said the SI.

A murder case will be filed, he added.
