Cox’s Bazar mayor fined for illegal sand lifting

The environmental damage has been assessed at Tk50,000

The Department of Environment (DoE) fined the mayor of Cox’s Bazar municipality Tk 50,000, finding him guilty of extracting sand illegally.

Mayor Mujibur Rahman was fined after a hearing was held in this regard at the office of the DoE’s Chittagong Region Director, Moazzam Hossain.

According to the DoE, the municipality mayor damaged the environment by lifting sand illegally from the Nazirartek area of Samitipara in Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila.

The environmental damage has been assessed at Tk50,000 and the mayor has been asked to pay the fine within seven working days.
