Madrasa student found dead: Police recovered the body of a madrasa student on Monday evening from a pond in Diknagar village of Muksudpur, Gopalganj, who reportedly went missing the previous day. The deceased, Didar Fakir, 16, reportedly went fishing at the pond, where he might have drowned, said Abul Bashar, in-charge of Sindhiaghat police outpost. “We were informed that a dead body was floating in the water body. We recovered the body and sent it for autopsy,” added the police officer.

Youth killed in Brahmanbaria road accident: At least one youth was killed in a road accident on the Comilla-Sylhet Highway near Gajaria area on Tuesday. The motorcycle that the deceased, Mahi Khan, 21, was riding collided head-on with a CNG-run three-wheeler that killed him on the spot. The deceased was killed before he was taken to the hospital and he also sustained some injury marks, confirmed Dr Syed Ariful Islam of Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital.

4 drug peddlers held in Sylhet: Police in separate drives detained four alleged drug-peddlers with yaba tablets on Monday night. Acting on a tip-off, a team of the Detective Branch (DB) conducted a raid in the Charadighirpar area around 7pm and arrested Nazrul and Fahim with 55 pieces of yaba tablets. In another drive conducted at Taltola area under Kotwali Model police station around 10pm, police arrested Alamgir and Sadik with 140 pieces of yaba tablets.

Drug peddler in Chapainawabganj: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an alleged drug peddler with 4,700 yaba tablets from Shibganj in Chapainawabganj district on Monday night. RAB said, acting on a tip-off they raided Naldubi Hatatpara village under Shibganj upazila at night and found the arrestee Zenarul, 20, waiting on the road. After searching him, RAB recovered the yaba tablets and arrested him. Later, he was handed over to the police of Shibganj police station.

Foam factory gutted in Gazipur fire: A fire broke out in a foam factory at Pubail in Gazipur on Monday night. Deputy assistant director of Joydevpur Fire Service Abdul Hamid Miah said the fire broke out at Al-Raji Foam Factory around 10:30pm and it soon engulfed the entire factory as there were a large number of flammable substances. On information, five firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control around 12:30am on Tuesday.

Thakurgaon onion warehouse owner fined: A mobile court on Tuesday fined an onion warehouse owner Tk 5,000 for selling the bulbs at higher prices in Thakurgaon. Sadar’s UNO and Executive Magistrate Abdullah Al Mamun conducted the mobile court at the kitchen market of Gobindanagar and found inconsistency in onion prices of M/S Al Amin Traders; it fined the owner Abdul Jabbar Tk 5,000. The UNO asked local traders not to sell onions at high prices and said the drive will continue.

600-maund jute gutted in Kurigram fire: Around 600 maunds of jute was destroyed in a fire at a warehouse in Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram on Tuesday. Emon Miah, team leader of Nageshwari Fire Service, said that the fire broke out around 3:30am and a Fire Service team had extinguished the fire after four hours of frantic efforts. The estimated loss caused by the fire was worth around Tk15 lakh, according to Fire Service sources. Primarily it was suspected that the fire was sparked by an electric short-circuit.
