A member of village police has been arrested allegedly for raping a college girl in Bagha upazila of Rajshahi.
The arrestee Md Sohel, 28, is a member of the village police under the Bajubagha union council in Bagha upazila.
According to the complaint, Sohel allegedly impersonated a member of the detective branch of police in order to seduce the girl. Later, he deceived her into a sham marriage so that he could have sexual relationships with her.
When Sohel later demanded money from the girl saying that he was assigned to the Rapid Action Battalion, the girl, suspicious, asked around and found that Sohel was not a DB police, but village police.
Bagha police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazrul Islam said: “Sohel was handed over to the court on Tuesday morning after his arrest in the case. The girl has been sent to One-stop Crisis Centre at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for medical examination.”
