An independent candidate for Rajbari's Goalanda Upazila Parishad by-polls has passed away while he was undergoing treatment for brain haemorrhage at a Savar hospital.
Md Nurul Islam Mondal, former general secretary of Goalanda upazila unit of Awami League breathed his last around 5am on Monday at Enam Medical College and Hospital in Savar .
Previously on August 27, he was admitted to the hospital in critical condition and was released on September 7 after he got well, said sources from Nurul's family.
However, his condition further deteriorated on Sunday and he was rushed to the hospital where he passed away.
Nurul was suffering from different illnesses since he was shot by assailants a few years back, his family says.
