Another of the five workers, all of whom suffered burn injuries while melting iron in a Gazipur steel mill, passed away undergoing treatment on Monday.
The deceased Ripon Chandra Mohanta, 30, had been undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital with 50% burn injuries, confirmed Dr Samanta Lal Sen, Coordinator of DMCH's Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit.
Dr Samanta said the condition of injured Mojammel Hoque, 22, and Niloy Chandra Barman, 24, is critical. Previously on Saturday, one of the injured Dulal Miya, 25, died with 90% burn injuries.
The five workers were burned at around 4am on Friday morning at an SS Steel Mills Limited factory. They were later admitted to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Of the injured Mojammel sustained 90% burn injuries while Niloy, 25, sustained 50% burns. The fifth injured person, Azhar, 26, was released after primary treatment.
DMCH police outpost In-Charge, Md Bacchu Mia on Friday said flakes from the fire suddenly hit the workers while they were melting iron. Their coworkers rushed them to Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital in Tongi. They were later transferred to DMCH around 6am.
