Dinajpur's Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam’s father Omor Sheikh has been sent to Dhaka from Rangpur Medical College Hospital on Friday night for better treatment.
The 70-year-old freedom fighter had been undergoing treatment at the Rangpur hospital since the attack by miscreants on UNO Wahida in the early hours of September 3, when Omor was injured trying to protect his daughter.
Omor is paralyzed waist down after the attack but is able to talk and eat, confirmed Dr Tofayel Islam, a doctor of the Neurosurgery department of the Rangpur hospital.

"During the time of the attack he (Omor) sustained injuries on his shoulder. This led to a spinal cord injury. Generally, these conditions result in the hands and feet getting paralyzed, said Dr Tofayel.
"In his case, he was paralyzed waist down although he can move his hands. Typically it takes two to three months to recover completely from these injuries. For now he doesn't need surgery but requires long term treatment," Dr Tofayel continued.
Specialist doctors from Dhaka asked to transfer him after the medical board of Rangpur hospital proposed the matter, Dr Tofayel added.
