The office of an engineer of the Comilla City Corporation (CCC) was vandalized on Thursday as he reportedly spoke about irregularities of employees involved in fund misappropriation with contractors.
Nurullah, the superintending engineer of the City Corporation said one month’s salary of two employees of the tax department was not cleared because of allegations of irregularities against them.
"I spoke against them at the staff meeting on Thursday regarding their irregularities. When I was in my office, the employees along with six to seven others entered my office and vandalized it.
A source from the City Corporation said, due to irregularities of a contractor company, the engineer was hesitant to clear the bills as per the contractor's demand which agitated the contractor and his men.
When contacted over the phone, Comilla City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Monirul Hoque Shakoo said he was unaware of the incident of vandalization as he is staying in Dhaka.
Kotwali Model police station Officer-in-Charge Anwarul Haque on Thursday said: "Police visited the spot after the incident over the workers' salary. The glass of the in-charge engineer’s table was vandalized. No case was filed in this connection."
