A 12-year-old boy has been murdered allegedly by his mother at their house in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga.
The victim is Al Amin, son of Azibar Hossain, hailing from the upazila’s Chitla Haatpara area.
Police arrested the mother, Hasina Begum, and detained two of her neighbours – Jahurul Islam and Ibrahim – in this connection.
Damurhuda police station’s Officer-in-Charge (investigation) DM Emdadul Haq said Hasina hacked Al Amin when her two other children were asleep around 12 midnight.
Azibar, a mango trader, was not at home during the incident as he went to Dhaka for business purposes.
After killing her son, Hasina started hue and cry, claiming that Jahurul and Ibrahim committed the murder over land dispute, the OC said, adding that she did it all just to cover up the assassination.
But, in primary interrogation, Hasina confessed to the crime as Azibar filed the case against her. She did not disclose the reason behind the killing, though.
Meanwhile, a day labourer has been stabbed to death in Rangpur’s Peerganj upazila reportedly by a grocer and his aides over due payments.
Peerganj police OC Rezaul Karim said the accused, Rubel, had a heated altercation with the victim, Prabhat Chandra, 42, at the upazila’s Chatra Union Parishad on Thursday night over an outstanding amount of Tk180.
“At one stage, Rubel knifed Prabhat indiscriminately. He also injured Prabhat’s nephew Liton Chandra, who came to rescue his uncle,” the OC said.
With critical injuries, the duo were admitted at Rangpur Medical College Hospital, where Prabhat died on Friday morning, the police officer said, adding, Liton was yet not out of danger.
Rubel went into hiding after the incident, while a case has been filed in this regard.
