18 shot, 25 injured in Awami League gunfight in Pabna

Police detained three people for their involvement in the incident

At least 25 people have reportedly been injured in an armed clash between two factions of local Awami League in Bhatikaya village of Sujanagar upazila, Pabna.

According to local sources, two local Awami League leaders Shahin Hossain Master and Khairul Islam were having a dispute regarding establishing supremacy over a local water body and some land in Raninagar union.

Following the ongoing-dispute, the gunfight broke out on Sunday afternoon between followers of the two AL leaders, locals say.

We are still receiving patients with bullet-wounds at the hospital and among them, the health condition of six people are critical, said Jahedi Hasan Rumi, an on-duty doctor in Pabna General Hospital.

Among the 25 people, 18 of them were bullet shot in the reported gunfight, confirmed the doctor.

Contacted, Aminpur police station OC Mozammel Haque said: “We detained three people for their involvement in the matter. Additional police forces have been deployed into the area to ensure safety to the locals.
