First Rohingya team on the way to Bhashan Char

The team is set to reach the island by evening

Representatives of the Rohingya community from the crowded camps of Cox's Bazar began their journey toward Bhashan Char, to inspect the place where Bangladesh targets to accommodate 103,200 Rohingyas.

The team of 40 Rohingyas includes majhis (local Rohingya leaders) and family members of the Rohingyas already sheltered on Bhashan Char, a remote island in an estuary of the Meghna river.

The Rohingya team started their journey by two buses under the supervision of the Bangladesh Army from the transit camp of Ukhiya early on Saturday.

After reaching Chittagong, a vessel under the supervision of Bangladesh Navy would take them to Bhashan Char.

Noakhali Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Alamgir Hossain said the team will reach the island by evening, reports our Noakhali Correspondent Ranajit Chandra Kuri.

“The visiting Rohingya team consists of 40 Rohingyas from different camps in Cox’s Bazar. It is decided that they would be back from Bhashan Char on September 8,” said Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) Mahbub Alam Talukder.

Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner Md Kamal Hossain said it is a "Go and See" visit to give an idea to the Rohingyas about Bhashan Char.

The team inspecting the living conditions has two women and the rest are men.
