Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), during a routine patrol, recovered 424,000 yaba pills worth Tk12.72 crore in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
Confirming the matter, Lt Col Foysal Hasan Khan, commanding officer of the BGB 2 in Teknaf, said a special team from the Damdamiya BOP made the drugs bust during a routine patrol along the Naf River Wednesday night.
On patrol, the BGB team challenged some men on suspicion of carrying smuggled drugs on a boat moored at the bank of the Naf River at around 11:30 pm.
The suspected smugglers, seeing the patrol team from a distance, used the Keora forest as cover, jumped into the Naf River, swam across the zero line and fled into Myanmar.
The patrol team reached the spot and recovered the large cache of the contraband drug left behind by the suspected smugglers.
BGB sources said the seized items will be destroyed in the presence of senior officials, representatives of the Department of Narcotics Control, public representatives and media personnel after completing necessary legal procedures.
