A court has sentenced four people to death following their conviction in a case filed over the murder of madrasa student and grocery shop clerk Musa Shikdar, 16, in September 2018 in Khulna.
The convicted have been identified as Boni Amin Shikdar, 20, Rahim Sheikh, 21, Raju Shikdar, 20, and Nuhu Sheikh, 28 of Alaipur in Rupsha upazila.
Senior District and Sessions Judge Md Moshiur Rahman Chowdhury passed the order at a trial hearing Wednesday morning during which he acquitted the remaining two accused in the case.
The two acquitted have been identified as Jashim Shikdar 59, and Siraj Shikdar, 52.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Public Prosecutor Enamul Hoque said: “All six accused in the murder case were present at the dock during the verdict hearing.”
“Each convict has been fined with Tk25,000 under section 302/34 and sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined with another Tk20,000 under section 364/34 of the penal code.”
On September 20, 2018, police recovered the body of Musa Shikdar from a river in Rupsha upazila.
The convicts had confessed to strangling Musa to death over a dispute regarding unpaid dues at his grocery shop before dumping his body in the river.
Mustakim Shikdar, the father of the deceased, lodged a complaint in court on September 27.
Following a court order, a murder case was recorded at Rupsha police station on January 15, 2019.
On May 30, 2019, the case investigation officer, Sub-Inspector Mukto Roy Chowdhury of the Detective Branch of police, submitted a charge sheet against the six accused.
