Indigenous woman gang raped in Bandarban

The woman got into a relationship with one of the accused over the phone a few days ago, according to the case filed

A woman from the Tripura community was allegedly raped by six people, including a man with whom she had a relationship, in Lama upazila of Bandarban.

The incident took place at a house in Purbachambi, a remote hilly area in Aziznagar union of the upazila, early on Monday.

The 25-year-old rape survivor filed a case in this connection under the Woman and Child Repression Prevention Act against six people at Lama police station, confirmed the police station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman.

The prime accused of the case, Nurul Huda, 27, a resident of Puitta Para of Sarai union of the upazila, is currently on the run.

According to the case statement, the woman got into a relationship with Nurul over the phone a few days ago, who soon promised to marry her.

When she went to meet Nurul on Sunday, Nurul and five others raped her and later hijacked Tk30,000 which she had been  carrying in her bag, the case details further mentions.

Lama police station OC Mizanur Rahman said drives are being conducted to arrest the accused persons.
