Update : 28 Aug 2020, 04:20 PM

A man and his son were electrocuted to death in a pond where its owner had allegedly set up an electric trap to protect fish from thieves in Tulashon village of Nandigram upazila in Bogra on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Mofazzal Hossain, 55, and his son Shariful Islam, 26, confirmed Nandigram police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shawkat Kabir.

According to locals, Shahin Alam, who cultivates fish in his pond, set up an electric trap every night to keep fish thieves away. Two children of the village wanted to go on a boat ride in the pond and felt mild shocks.

When Mofazzal went into the pond to investigate, he was electrocuted and the same happened to Shariful, who followed to help Mofazzal. Both were killed on the spot.

OC Shawkat said the bodies of Mofazzal and Shariful were sent for autopsy. “The fish farmer Shahin Alam fled and the family of the victims are preparing to file a case in this regard.”

Shahin could not be reached for comment. His phone was switched off. A case was yet to be filed in this regard.
