Three traffic policemen were injured in an attack allegedly by Jessore city unit Chhatra League leaders and supporters trying to seize their unregistered motorbike.
The incident took place in Jessore's Mohinar area on Wednesday at 3:30pm.
Jessore Traffic police Inspector Mahmud Fazlul Karim said: “When three members of the city unit Chhatra League, including Mejbauddin Sumon, the library affairs secretary, were crossing the Monihar area on a motorbike that did not have registration, police seized the vehicle as they were unable to produce any documents.”
“A few hours later, Sumon and Rowshan Iqbal Shahi, another city unit Chhatra League leader, along with 20-25 supporters attacked the traffic office, injuring three traffic policemen who were on duty at that time. They also displaced some official documents during the attack,” said Inspector Mahmud.

When some other BCL members had gone to the police station, the police misbehaved with them, to which the BCL members reacted and they exchanged heated words. However, they did not attack anyone. The police also called Sumon to return his motorbike, but have now arrested him.”
Inspector Mahmud confirmed that Sumon had been arrested and has been sent to Kotwali police station.
“A case will be filed in connection to the incident,” he added.
