Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), based on specific allegations, detained a man for impersonating a RAB official in Gazipur city early Monday.
The detainee Anwar Pasha, 30, had in his possession a foreign-made pistol, four bullets, a walkie-talkie set and a duplicated RAB uniform.
Lt Cdr Abdullah Al Mamun, of RAB 1 Porabari Camp in Gazipur, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
According to the RAB source, Anwar had been scamming businessmen and public representatives over the internet and over the phone by impersonating a RAB major or a battalion commander in different parts of the country since 2016.
Using RAB monogram and officers’ photos, he used to scam these people out of a huge amount of money through mobile banking promising various services.
After receiving many such complaints, RAB 1 conducted a drive Monday night and detained Anwar Pasha from Outpara under Bason police station in the city.
There are several cases of fraud against him in different police stations, the RAB source added.
