Update : 23 Aug 2020, 10:38 PM

A container vessel loaded with exports goods has tilted after losing balance at a jetty of Chittagong port.

The accident took place when the ship--laden with 1260 containers tilted at No.11 Jetty of the port on Sunday morning.

Even after unloading 10 containers, the ship could not regain its balance.

The 24-year old container vessel ‘OEL Hind’ (currently sailing under the flag of Panama) was scheduled to leave Chittagong port with exports items on Sunday.

The Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) did not allow the ship to leave the port after the incident.

CPA Secretary Omar Faruk said that the technical team of the port is looking into the matter with all sincerity.

“Around 10 containers could be unloaded from the vessel with the help of the port’s crane. However, the vessel’s crane went out of order and it remained out of balance.

“We are trying our level best to handle the incident,” said the CPA Secretary.
