Rajshahi-5 (Puthia-Durgapur) MP Prof Dr Md Monsur Rahaman tested positive for the coronavirus (Covid-19) on Saturday.
The parliament member’s personal assistant Shafiqul Islam confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
Shafiqul said the MP’s sample was sent for tests on Saturday afternoon and Dr Azizul Haque Azad of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) informed that the MP had tested positive on the same night.
"Currently he (the MP) is in his home in Kazihat area of Rajshahi city and his health condition is stable. He has no symptoms," said Shafiqul.
Earlier when the MP had attended parliament sessions, he was tested thrice and tested negative at the time, Shafiqul added.
On Saturday, 22 more people tested positive for Covid-19 at the RMCH among 94 samples tested, taking the total number of infections to 4,299 in the district, confirmed Deputy Director Dr Saiful Ferdous of RMCH.
Among them 2,055 made recoveries and 37 have died until Saturday.
