A gantry crane has been damaged after being hit by a foreign container vessel at the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) of Chittagong Port.
The accident took place at around noon on Thursday when a foreign vessel, named “MV Mount Cameron”, was berthing at the NCT jetty.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Secretary Md Omar Faruk said that container handling with the damaged gantry had remained suspended following the accident.
“A three-member probe body headed by the dockmaster of the port has been formed following the accident,” the CPA secretary added.
High officials of the port, including CPA Chairman Rear Admiral SM Abul Kalam Azad, visited the spot after the accident.
There are in total 14 key gantry cranes for handling containers at the NCT and the CCT (Chittagong Container Terminal) jetties of the port.
