The Chittagong district administration has opened 19 shelters in the hilly areas in order to protect people's lives and property amid heavy rains.
Heavy downpour usually triggers landslides that often claim lives in Chittagong.
Loudspeaker announcements are also being made in the disaster-prone areas to help evacuate people from the risky hilly areas to the safer shelters.
Touhidul Islam, assistant commissioner (Land) of Chittagong district administration said that a total of 19 shelters have been opened in the city so that people living in the hilly areas can take refuge.”
“People living at risk of landslides are being moved to safer places as a precaution,” added the AC.
The district administration has so far listed 835 families who are living on the 17 most vulnerable hills in order to take them to safety.
