Police on Friday night arrested a man accused in a case filed for allegedly raping a pregnant woman multiple times and filming one the incidents in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur.
The arrested was identified as Ujjal Miya, 32, an electrician by occupation, who worked as an assistant of the woman's husband. He used to live in the same building as the woman and her husband.
Confirming the arrest, Sreepur police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Pradip Chandra Saha, said the case was filed by the victim’s husband on Friday night.
On July 7, Ujjal first raped the woman when her husband was not at home. He also filmed the incident, according to the woman.
Ujjal raped the woman multiple times on five different days, blackmailing her that he would show the clip of rape to the woman's husband. At one point, the woman told the matter to her husband.
Later, the woman and her husband disclosed the matter to the house owner Shamim and another local Mahbub, who told the couple to suppress the matter. Shamim and Mahbub also took a false confession of the couple through video recording that no such rape had taken place and forced them to get out of the house, the woman claimed.
Sreepur police station SI Pradip said police have been trying to arrest Shamim and Mahbub.
