Families claim teens were murdered by Jessore correctional centre authorities

They demanded that the perpetrators of the incident be brought to book

The families of seventeen-year-old Nayeem Hossain and eighteen year-old Rasel alias Sujon, who died at Jessore Juvenile Correction Centre on Thursday, claimed that their children had been murdered by the authorities of the correctional centre.

They demanded that the perpetrators of the incident be brought to book.

According to the authorities of the correction centre, a clash at the Juvenile Correction Centre in Jessore left three killed in Jessore on Thursday. The victims were identified as Parvez Hasan Rabbi, 16, Rasel alias Sujon, 18 and Nayeem Hossain, 17.

Among the deceased,  Rasel alias Sujon, 18 and Nayeem Hossain, 17 were residents of Talibpur Purbo para in Dewli union of Shibganj upazila in Bogra.

Nayeem Hossain's mother Shantana Begum (45) alleged the family had heard there was no clash at the correction centre. "My child was murdered by the officials of the correctional centre."

Nayeem was accused in a rape and murder case filed with Shibganj police station and kept at the correction centre because he was under 18 years of age.

Subeda Begum, the mother of another deceased, Rasel alias Sujon, alleged Sujon was beaten to death by the officials of the correctional centre. She demanded exemplary punishment for those who had killed her son inside the correctional centre in Jessore. 

A rape case was filed against Rasel alias Sujon on 23 October 2015. He later confessed to his part and was sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment for the crime.
