An adolescent boy, produced before a Chittagong court in connection with the murder of his friend, confessed that it was him who committed the murder and later went to the funeral to avoid suspicion.

Earlier on Monday, the police recovered the body of a minor from a remote hill under Khulshi police station in the city.

The deceased was identified as Md Russell, 13, a fifth-grader of Krishnachura Adarsha Bidyaniketan.

On July 31, Russell’s father Humayun Kabir filed a general diary with Khulshi police station regarding his missing son.

On Thursday, police arrested Russell’s neighbour, a 15-year-old boy from his house at Jalalabad Housing Society under Khulshi police station in the city in connection to the murder.

Pranab Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Khulshi police station said that the teenage boy, also an electrician by profession, gave a confessional statement before the Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Court, narrating the details of Russell’s murder.

The two boys—who were next-door neighbours and also friends—got into a fight some days back. As a sequel to the altercation, the electrician came up with a plan to kill Russell.

On July 31, he along with his friend Russell went to New Market and bought a knife. In the evening, he told Russell that he hid Tk4,000 in a remote place in the hills and wanted him [Russell] to accompany him to the hill to collect the money.

When they reached the spot, he stabbed Russell to death and returned home. When Russell’s body was recovered, the electrician took part in the namaz-e-janaza and burial to avoid suspicion.
