Chittagong journo sued under DSA for allegedly defaming lawmaker on Facebook

The accused is a staff reporter of Dainik Purbodesh a local newspaper

A journalist has been sued under the Digital Security Act for allegedly making derogatory comments on Facebook against a lawmaker  from the ruling party.

The accused Faruk Abdullah works as a Staff Reporter of Dainik Purbodesh, a local newspaper.

On behalf of the lawmaker from Chittagong-16 Mustafizur Rahman Chowdhury, a youth, Morshedur Rahman filed the case with Banshkhali police station on Saturday. 

Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, the police station’s officer-in-charge (OC) Rejaul Karim Majumder said an investigation is underway in this connection. 

According to the case statement, the accused journalist posted derogatory comments about the lawmaker on Facebook and Morshedur filed the case after receiving verbal directives from the lawmaker.
