A suspected drug dealer was killed in a reported gunfight between two drug gangs at Dormutia village in Keshabpur upazila of Jessore early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Md Moniruzzaman alias Monir, 38, son of Jamal Uddin alias Madhu. He was wanted in 15 criminal cases, said police.
Keshabpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jashim Uddin said: “Tipped off that two groups of drug traders were exchanging fire, a team of police conducted a drive in the area in the dead of night and recovered the bullet-hit body of Monir.”
When Monir was taken to the Keshabpur Upazila Health Complex, doctors at the emergency department declared him dead, he added.
One shooter gun, two bullets and one kg of hemp were recovered from the spot.
Police later sent the body to Jessore General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
