Huge crowd of homeward-bound people hailing from 21 Southern districts of the country were seen on the Shimulia-Kathalbari river route in the morning, and there was little sign of “social distancing.”
Sources at the Kathalbari ghat said movement of ferries, speed boats and other vessels from Shimulia were suspended from early on Friday for some hours due to the turbulent currents of the Padma. This has led to the increase of traffic since morning.
Md Abir Hossain, the on-duty senior assistant superintendent of police at the Kathalbari ghat said 200 police were deployed to prevent any untoward situation at the ghat area.
