4 of a family among 12 killed in road accidents

The incidents all occurred on Friday

At least 12 people including four of a family, were killed and eight others injured in separate road crashes in Sylhet, Gaibandha, Habiganj and Bogra on Friday.

In Sylhet, five people, including four members of a family, were killed and another injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a car on the Sylhet-Dhaka Highway in Boraya Chanpur region of Osmaninagar upazila.

The incident took place around 5:30am on Friday when a Sylhet-bond bus collided with a bus of Comilla Transport, confirmed Mainul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sylhet Highway police.

The deceased were identified as Swapan Kumar Das, his wife Lovely Rani Das and their two children — Saj and Sajon of Dirai upazila in Sunamganj and private car driver Hashem.

Another child of the couple Sourav was injured in the accident and was undergoing treatment at Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.

They were going to their village home, said Mainul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sylhet Highway Police.

On information, a firefighting unit went to the spot and recovered the bodies and sent those to local hospital morgue.

In Gaibandha, three garment workers on their way to their village homes from Dhaka have been killed after a covered van collided head-on with their car.

The accident took place at the Nundah Bridge area of the Dhaka-Rangpur Highway in Gobindaganj upazila in the early hours, confirmed Gobindaganj Highway police station OC Abdul Kader Jilani.

The deceased Shahimul Islam, 50, Shaheb Miya, 30, and Kajal Miya, 30,  all passengers of the covered van were killed as tiles, carried as a cargo of the covered van,  fell on them.  

Three injured from the accident were taken to Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex.

In Habiganj, three were killed and four others were injured as a bus and a car collided head-on at Putijuri Abdanarayan area in Bahubol upazila.

One of the deceased was identified as Shahida and the identities of the other two is yet to be ascertained. All of them were garment workers, confirmed Bahubol Model police station OC Md Kamruzzaman.

The workers rented a car and were travelling by it with passengers over its capacity when it collided with the bus of Monohardi Paribahan coming from the opposite side, according to OC Kamruzzaman.

In Bogra, a 28-year-old woman has been killed in a motorcycle accident on the Bogra-Natore Highway at Ranbagha area in the morning.

The deceased was identified as Shapla Khatun, 28, of Nandigram village, confirmed Kundarhat police outpost Sub-Inspector Saiful Islam.

Quoting the victim's husband SI Saiful said the husband lost control over his motorbike and they fell on the road when a stone-laden truck ran over Shapla and killed her on the spot.
