The government’s NGO Bureau Chief Md Rashedul Islam visited the SNV Netherlands Development Organization Urban Sanitization program after completing a successful tour of Jessore on Tuesday.
During a discussion at SNV's Jessore office, he emphasized on the importance of sanitation intervention, reads a press release published by SNV on Tuesday.
Md Rashedul Islam praised the local municipality and SNV's role in improving sewage disposal and management in Jessore city and called on them to continue their work.
“There are very few organizations in Bangladesh that have made progress in the sewage management department. Among them SNV's contributions are truly noteworthy,” he said.
“We also must think about the cleaners and workers involved with disposal. Only if the NGOs, municipalities, and local administration stand by the government, we can transform the lives of people,” he added.
In addition to visiting the construction sites for sanitation is schools under SNV projects, Md Rashedul Islam observed the collection, transport, and disposal of waste by the vacutag machine in the area. He also visited and observed the operation of the Fecal Sludge Treatment Plant in Jessore.
He was accompanied by Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate of Jessore's Deputy Commissioner Office Atiqur Rahman and several municipality and SNV employees.
SNV has been working locally in WASH (Water, Sewage Management and Health), agriculture and renewable energy sources for a long time. The organization has been working with the sewage management of southern cities for the last six years.
