Suspended police sub-inspector Helal Uddin has now been sued for instigating the suicide of a 16-year-old boy that occurred following an illegal police raid at his house in Chittagong city.
Rubina Akhter, mother of the deceased lodged the case with the court of Third Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin under the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention) Act 2013 on Monday.
CMP Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Kamruzzaman told the Dhaka Tribune that the court took the case into cognizance and ordered the Detective Branch of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) to investigate.
Earlier, a three-member probe body of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) found SI Helal Uddin of Double Mooring police station responsible for the suicide of the teenager.
Later, the errant police officer was suspended as per the recommendation of the probe body.
Formed to investigate into the suicide of a 16-year-old boy after a police raid in Chittagong has recommended the suspension of the sub-inspector of Double Mooring police station.
The probe body also found that the officer-in-charge of Double Mooring police station Sadip Kumar Das had lack of supervision over his subordinate officers and recommended issuing a show-cause notice to the OC in this regard.
The tenth-grader committed suicide after his mother and two sisters sustained injuries during a scuffle with the police when they tried to detain him without probable cause.
The incident took place in the city’s Badamtali Boro Masjid area under Double Mooring police station on July 16.
The deceased was identified as Salman Islam Maruf, a tenth grader of a local high school.
