Police on Monday night arrested a man for killing his wife in Mohorkoya village in Lalpur upazila of Natore.
The victim Srmiti's body floated up a pond in Mohorkoya Pashchimpara village in Lalpur upazila on Friday. She was 30 years old.
Smriti's husband, Jabbar Ali, was arrested after a murder case was filed against him by the victim's father Taslim.
Confirming the matter, Lalpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Selim Reza said the accused confessed to his crimes during a preliminary interrogation.
Quoting the accused, OC Selim said: "Jabbar married Smriti around 6 to 7 years ago. They now have a five-year-old daughter. Around two years ago, Jabbar got into an affair with another woman through the phone and began to stay with her in Kushtia after marrying her.”
Two months ago, Smriti requested Jabbar to come and stay with her and her daughter, which Jabbar accepted, added the OC.
"At one point, his second wife divorced him. Smriti and locals kept taunting him over his second marriage. Being angry over everything that has been going on in his life, he sedated Smriti with sleeping pills and held a pillow over her face until she suffocated to death. Then he dumped her body into a pond in Mohorkoya Pashchimpara village," OC Selim further said.
