A suspected drug dealer, who has also been accused of rape, has been killed in a gunfight with members of the Rapid Action Battalion in Putia upazila of Rajshahi.
The deceased was identified as Ekhlas Ali, 30, hailing from Holhulia village in the upazila.
Confirming the matter, Putia police station Officer-In-Charge Rezaul Islam said the gunfight took place when law enforcers were conducting an anti-narcotic raid at Pirgacha village in the upazila on early hours of Tuesday.
Following the gunfight, RAB officials also recovered one pistol, two bullets, one locally-made gun and 480 yaba tablets from the spot.
“The RAB officials handed over the body to the police station later in the night”, he added.
Earlier in April, Ekhlas Ali raped his sister-in-law Eva Khatun by mixing sedatives in her drink when she came to stay at their house. Later, the girl committed suicide after returning home. Following her death, Ekhlas’s father-in-law filed a case against him and his parents.
