A police officer tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday, four days after he died at Rangpur Medical College Hospital(RMCH) with symptoms similar to that of the deadly viral disease.
The deceased Asaduzzaman worked in the police-vehicle department of Joypurhat police and hails from Naogaon, confirmed Joypurhat Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Salam Kabir.
On Wednesday, Asaduzzaman was on-duty in a prison van to transport inmates when he fell severely ill at Bottoli market area in Joypurhat. He was initially admitted to Joypurhat Sadar hospital and was later transferred to RMCH, where he passed away on Thursday, said SP Md Salam.
With the new death recorded, the death toll for the virus now stands at two people in Joypurhat.
Of the 7,493 people tested in the district, 623 people have tested positive for Covid-19 and 378 of them have made recoveries, according to sources from Joypurhat’s civil surgeon office.
